Furniture
I got a new cabinet/ bookshelf and two small hamper/benches this
weekend. The benches are small- 24" wide, so I put both of them at the
foot of my bed and they look like one long seat. I'm going to make a
cushion to go on top of each one so they don't look like a giant white
blob of wood at the end of my bed. I'm pretty excited about getting
these things because it eliminated a big pile of clutter in the corner
and my closet that had no place to hide.
I'm not really appreciating the fact that its still full on dark at 6am
these days. But on the bright side, shorter days mean its fall, and
fall means KACTOBER! 31 days of fun and festivites capped off by the
double whammy of my birthday and holloween. And then the day after
halloween its more or less non-stop Christmas joy for 2 months.
Woohoo!!!!

Well, how about that?
It was 95 degrees when I left work in santa clara today. When i got home
to santa cruz 40 mins later it was 54 degrees. I even had to turn on
the heat- who'd have thought?

I am tired. So tired I think I'm going to melt.
I've been running errands all day. ALL DAY. And I'm tired.
So guess what I did last night? The Warbaby and I went to Berkeley to
see Massive Attack at the Greek Theater. I brought my training sock to
work on at the show, and was quite excited about it. Fate however had a
different evening planned. As it turns out, The Warbaby's car
malfunctioned and we rode in a tow truck from Berkeley to San Jose
instead of seeing a show. It was fun though, and an adventure I never
thought I'd have. It was too dark to knit or else i 'd have worked at
least a couple of stitches just to say I knitted in a tow truck.

Progress
Well, I'm about 3" from being done with my training sock. About 1 inch
further along than yesterday. But I do have to say I FINALLY wove in
the 800 end from the knitty felted messenger bag I started last August.
I actually finished the knitting last fall, but I could never work up
the mental strength to tackle those yarn ends. I sat down last night
with a crochet hook and the bag and finished the whole shebang while
watching Selena for the 987th time (gosh I love that movie!!). Today I
felted it and it's blocking itself around a towel and box as I write.
Tomorrow I will stitch it together (although with what I will stitch it
I do not know, since it took every inch of yarn to make the bag. I'll
figure something out though), and then I'l have a swanky new bag to tote
my crap in. Woohoo!!!

It's getting there
I'm about 75% done with my first training sock. Its not perfect, but
who cares? Its a training sock, after all. Besides, its going to be
hiding under my shoe anyway, so no one will ever see the couple of rows
where I k2tog instead of ssk or stst and didn't catch it till like 5
rows later. And know what, I doubt if anyone would notice it anyway. I
sure don't, which is why I let those little bits of handmade character
stay in, instead of re-doing 'em.
I had the most fabulous idea for a felted bag, but I need to finish up
the 678 things I have in the pipe right now. Either that or
re-prioritize...
Ugh. Tomorrow is monday. Sigh.

Happy Saturday
I had about 6 zillion social event type things to do this weekend, which would mean that I would be litterally on the go from dawn to dusk both Saturday and Sunday. Down to Monterey, up to Half Moon Bay, back down to Manresa (yes, the same one in the Summer Knitty), over the hill, and back to Santa Cruz for a friend coming to visit me for the day. Well, starting last night (after my meditation class where I meditated for 2 hours to balance the joy of having so many friends that want to spend time with me with the stress of having to be somewhere 75 miles away every 3 hours), things started to fall apart, and by 7:37am today, everything except Manresa had been cancelled or postponed for a variety of reasons. Woohoo! I'm sooo relaxed now- not only do I now have time to go to yoga today and tomorrow, I also have time to go to the beach, knit for a zillion hours, and hit the sale at Macys. And the best part is that the thing is Manresa is a BBQ beach party for
my surfing club, so now I will actually be able to bring my board and surf with the other kids, instead of trying to stay clean and dry for the race to the next event.
So what's on the knitting deck this weekend? Finishing my sock and ribbi cardi. Yes, I am still not done with Ribbi Cardi. I have a good excuse though- I LOST it. It's been missing forever, but I found it in the bus last weekend, tucked down into the cabinet where I keep the propane bottles. It's been there um, well, at least a couple of camping trips anyway. I can't remember when I last worked on it, probably June-ish?
Speaking of camping, here are a couple of pics from lasdt weeks fun at Henry Cowell State Park:

My very own sugar pie Warren and Betty tabulating golf scores after 9 holes at Valley Gardens Golf Course.

Betty and Yoshi and Elvis.

The piglets sleeping in a stack- Elvis fell asleep on top of Yoshi.

Betty's sugar pie Vinh went too, but somehow I didn't seem to end up with a picture of him that wasnt taken from a distance of about 800 yards so that you could actually tell it was him and not some random person walking 6 blocks away.
Ok, I got to go get dressed for the yoga class I get to go to now! Woohoo!
Have a good day-
Sock magic
I started the heel flap on the first sock tonight. I'm about halfway
through said flap and I'd like to keep going, but I have to go to bed.
Don't you hate it when it happens that way?
BTW- I was watching The Jeffersons on TVLand tonight and Helen had on
the GREATEST chunky ribbed knee length cardi. It had a hood and a belt,
and it looked completely 1977 and completely modern at the same time.

How cute is this?
Omigosh, check this out. Isn't this adorable?
What a great stash-reducing project this will be!

In Indy
I'm in indianapolis now. I had to get up at 4am to catch my flight. In
case you aren't clear how 4:00am works, let me give you a little course
in it- you go to bed, then you get up about an hour later. Ya'll, I get
up at 5am all the time, but this 4:00 thing is crazy. And know what
else? Tomorrow and Wednesday I have to get up at 6am Indy time. Guess
what time that is to my Pacific time zone internal clock? 3am.
Cra-zazy.
Right now I'm just knitting myself into a stupor. I had to rip out
6inches of sock yesterday due to a major mechanical error in my
knitting. Right now I am back to where I was this time yesterday.
Maybe tomorrow I'll be finished?

A 2 inch sock
I have about 2 inches of sock finished so far, using 2 circulars. I worked on it at lunch today at work. I swear to god, 50 people asked me what I was making, and when I said "a sock" every single one of those 50 people said "you are only making one sock?" um, ha ha ha? I am almost tempted to make just one sock and give it to someone as a gift.
but in other news, the 2 circ method is AMAZING, and I will no longer be using dpns. I'm thrilled, people, just thrilled. I don't have the patience to fiddle with dpns for anything other than the top of a hat and I refuse to use straights for anything at all anymore. This is sooo great I am just beside myself. Woohoo!
Has anyone else heard the new Scissor Sisters song I Don't Feel Like Dancing? Elton John is a co-writer and it is such a Bee Gees retro thing- it makes me want to dance dance dance (quite unlike the title of the song).
Hope all is well with you. I'm going camping tomorrow with the Lovebug (aka Warren), Betty and Vinh, and Betty's dog's Yoshi and Elvis. We're going to Henry Cowell State Park this time and we'll be golfing on Saturday afternoon in Scotts Valley. It should be super fun, although I haven't golfed in about um, 3 years or so, so I do hope no one is going to be irritated with my rusty moves on the course.
Monday I am going to Indianapolis for work. I have to go do some laundry now so that when I get home from camping I will be able to repack without any trouble. Later ya'll!!
Yay for my secret pal!!!
